.. if you are reading this, you are likely a former drug addict, aren’t you?
And you and I know you couldn’t handle your consumption. Period.
You are finally drug free, so why should you ever go back to hell?
Think about it.
But I don’t want you to get bored so let’s dive in.
7 Drug Addiction Recovery Quotes To Live By
Number 1 – The Problem
„The problem is not the problem. The problem is YOUR attitude about the problem“
In my opinion Johnny Depp is really a great actor, and it’s quite interesting that many famous actors have battled drug addiction and alcoholism.
Johnny Depp started smoking cigarettes at 12, drugs and alcohol soon following, according to DetoxRehab.
Anyway, this quote Johnny Depp said in the Pirates of the Caribbean, is one of my most favorite ones, because you can apply to this to literally everything in your life – not only in your recovery.
It’s all about your attitude. All about the way you think about a problem.
If you have a problem you have always 2 choices (at the very least..).
Accept the [email protected] and move forward (if there’s nothing you can do, by no means) or do something about it.
If you do nothing about a problem, guess what, nothing will change.
Instead, it gets bigger and bigger..
Number 2 – Simplicity
„If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough“
Without any doubt, Albert Einstein was a genius, and he has so many quotes, but there’s this one above, that sticked to me, personally.
This quote is especially true for recovery.
Because if you can’t tell the reason, why you were consuming (in simple words), your risk of relapse is quite high.
If you are unsure about reasons for your drug use, then watch my video below now 👇
And your recovery from drug addiction, is purely for yourself and nobody else.
That’s so important, because otherwise this whole thing called recovery, would be absolutely pointless, right?

Number 3 – It’s all about Karma
“We are free to choose our actions, . . . but we are not free to choose the consequences of these actions.”
I came across this quote by Stephen Covey years ago, and it instantly grabbed my attention.
I’m a big fan of Karma. Your actions creates appropriate results, i.e. cause and effect.
If you choose positive actions (e.g. finally living drug free), you likely get positive results and vice versa.
Always remember, Karma has no menu, you get what you give / deserve.
In German, there is an idiom called: „Kleine Sünden bestraft Gott sofort„.
Which can be translated into something like: „commit little sins and you get instantly punished by god.“
That means, bigger sins will strike in the long run, and that’s true, at least for me.
What about you?
Let’s move forward with the drug addiction recovery quotes.
Number 4 – The Present
„Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have. Make the now the primary focus of your life“
Eckart Tolle had a life changing event at the age of 29 which, in the end, led to becoming a spiritual teacher.
His book The Power of Now was also a big impact in my life. I was fascinated by the way the wrote, he talked.
And he’s right.
The present is all you ever have. And that’s the point of living.
This is something I live by everyday.
You can’t change the past nor massively influence the future.
This is what I do:
Try to make the best out of every situation you face in your recovery.
Do something everyday that makes you uncomfortable. Try to avoid routines.
If you have routines, you get bored, and if you get bored, you will do something to spice up your life.
And as a former drug addict, this can be quite dangerous.
Which leads to..
Number 5 – Fire baby
„If you are going through hell, keep going“
When I was severely depressed, this quote by Winston Churchill, was one of the few quotes, that totally described my current situation I was in, at that time.
I was going through hell. You bet.
But this quote can also be applied to your recovery, because in the beginning of your recovery you will go through hell.
Having nothing to knock yourself out and wondering how the hell can you fill the void without drugs, is something every drug addict is going through.
You are not alone.
So what can you do?
In a nutshell, keep your mind busy.
You need to do something new. Something you love doing.
And if you have no idea what you can do, then claim my free gift, to find what you are good at.
It’s a 2-step system (PDF), that helps you finding your unique skill(s), because you definetely have one(s).
Number 6 – Monsters
„Monsters are real, and ghosts are real too. They live inside of us, and sometimes, they win.“
This is a quote I will never forget and you shouldn’t either.
You have created a monster, that only waits for your weak moment, and if you don’t have any coping skills in place, you’re doomed.
Something you’d better understand is, you have played with fire, and you can really be glad to be alive – if you are reading this.
In my opinion, this monster stays at your side, for the rest of your life, but you have the control over it, with your mind.
You have the power and you can minimize the risk, that this monster can come back.
But, there’s a ‚but‘, because you cannot eliminate it completely. There’s always a risk of relapse.
Watch my video below, if you want to know how to prevent that from happening, and the method I use.
Let’s move on.
There’s a term called, once an addict, always an addict. Some say this is B.S.
I don’t think so, because I compare it with being a murderer.
The fact that a murderer killed someone, will always remain. Always.
And it doesn’t matter, if he never kills someone again, for the rest of his life. Once a murderer, always a murderer.
No matter how long your drug addiction is over, this time frame cannot be undone. It’s as simple as that.
And in essence, you killed your soul with your drug addiction.
Number 7 – Temperance
„It’s easier to forsake a desire completely, than being moderate.“
Some say, Nitzsche was a nihilist, but I don’t care. I care about what he said, and how it worked on me.
Personally, this quote is absolutely true for me. I am a person, who is unable to control my consumption. All or nothing, and I have chosen nothing.
What about you?
Do you really think, you can consume moderately as a former drug addict?
Put in the comments.
I’m absolutely interested, because my opinion is, this will never work for drug addicts.
That were the 7 drug addiction recovery quotes, but wait…
A Bonus Quote:)
„You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.“
This is such a great quote, I had to save it as a bonus. I don’t know you, but I can totally confirm this quote by Jim Rohn.
When I was heavily addicted to drugs my surroundings consisted of another drug addicts.
In the end, my only „friends“ were so called „drug-friends“. No more.
As Darren Hardy writes in The Compound Effect:
“According to research by social psychologist Dr. David McClelland of Harvard, [the people you habitually associate with] determine as much as 95 percent of your success or failure in life.”
On the other hand, if you change your environment, listening to successful people, reading their books, listen to their podcasts, etc.
Your attitude, your mind-set will change, for the better.
Can you relate?
Let’s have an example:
If you are hanging out with drug 5 drug addicts, you gonna be the sixth.
If you are hanging out with 5 millionaires, you gonna be the sixth.
B.S. or true?
What do you think?

I wanted to give you my favorite drug addiction recovery quotes in this post, because those helped me so much in my recovery and in my daily life as well.
Maybe you can only relate to a few, but at least to one, because then this post was worth writing:-)
Depending on your drug addiction story, those quotes are just a little brick of many you need to build / have in order to create a solid foundation for your recovery.
Of course you need additional components like a therapist, maybe medication, meetings, psychotherapy, etc.
The most important thing in your recovery is to keep your mind busy with „something“ that fills the void from now on.
Again, I can help you with finding this „something“. That’s why I’ve created this free gift.
